How to find Orrehaugen 13

Googlemap does not show the way up to the cabin. You can use 1881.no and search Orrehaugen 13, Borgund, but we think this description is good enough. See the map at the bottom of the page:

About 300 meters above the Borlaug tunnel (before the tunnel when you come from Tyin and after when you come from Lærdal) you turn south from the E16, the sign points towards Maristuen - Kongevegen. Then you drive about 800 meters, and a little before Maristuen you take a gravel road to the right (up to the south). It is signposted to Gramstølen. About 20 meters up there is an electric gate. If it is closed you must call Tone +4792208323 or Gunnar +4799255590, and we will open it by phone. Call us well in advance so we know you are coming, and again when you are at the gate.

After the barrier, follow the gravel road a good distance. First you pass a sign to the left to Oddestubben. This you just have to pass. Then you pass a parking lot where the rubbish bins are located. After that, go a little further up before you see a sign to the left to Orrehaugen. There you take off and drive about 400 m until you reach Orrehaugen 13, which is the destination.

A little about winter driving to the cabin

The road up to the cabin is a bit steep, but normally it does not snow very much here. 4-wheel drive may be required,

If the snow depth is at least 8 - 10 cm, it will be plowed.

The roads will be plowed in total and be passable according to the usual standard for such plowing. Public roads, side roads, car parks and private driveways are being plowed:

• From Thursday afternoon at 4 pm to Sunday afternoon at 5 pm.

• In the period small Christmas Eve at 11 to 1st New Year's Day at 17

• During the school winter holidays (weeks 8 - 9)

• In the Easter week until the 2nd day of Easter at 17

The main road will be plowed and will be passable all week. So you always come up the main road to where the slip road Orrehaugen takes off. From there it is 4-500 m to the cottage. It is very rare that it is difficult to drive to the cabin.
