This charming cottage is located in an idyllic and sheltered location in a private cottage area. The cabins in the area are located so that you can be quite undisturbed on your own patio with little visibility.
It is close to the E-16. The cabin is easy to travel to from both Western Norway and Eastern Norway. It takes about 3.5 hours from Bergen and 4 hours from Oslo
The nearest grocery store is in Borgund, but you will also find grocery stores in Ljøsne, Lærdal and Tyinkrysset. You can use google map to find them.
Two beautiful ski centers, Tyin Skisenter 18 min and Hemsedal Skisenter 51min are close by.
Filefjell is one of the entrances to Jotunheimen with a rich selection of peaks over 2000 meters.
In the vicinity of the cabin are Suletinden 1780 masl, Sulefjellet 1812 masl, Høgeloft 1920 masl, Bleia 1821 masl and Øvre Salen 1588 masl. So there is a rich selection of summit hikes for both winter and summer.
On days when you want more moderate trips, Lærdalen has many nice trips to offer. The two most famous are the round trip along Lærdalselven around the homestead Galdane and further the round trip Borgund Stavkirke-Sverrestigen-Vindhellavegen. And not to forget - The historic Kongevegen over Filefjell. In the winter, the trip to Brusestølen is nice.
There are tours for all seasons and the desired level. The trip to the waterfall and the "lagoon" in Oddedalen is beautiful and popular for families with children. The area offers very varied hiking opportunities from nice, quiet child-friendly walks with little ascent to airy peaks.
In the area there is a good wildlife. If you go for a walk at dusk in the spring, you can both hear and see black grouse playing. Note that the address, Orrehaugen means the mound of the black grouse. On a trip in the mountains, you often meet the domestic reindeer tribe that lives here.
ABOUT MARISTOVA (FROM WIKIPEDIA)
Maristova is referred to as the seal house (salustofa, hostel for road users) in 1358, and is in all probability named after the holy Margareta of Antioch ("Margaretarstofa a Filefjelli"), similar to Maridalen.
Over Filefjell is an old road between east and west, especially for the farmers in Valdres who had their nearest harbor in Lærdal. Fjellstua Maristova was probably established as early as around 1300. The farmers in Lærdal and Borgund were responsible for the maintenance of the "country road" through Lærdal and also had the obligation to ride both in the valley and in the mountains, for this heavy duty they were long exempt from military service and had reduced taxes . In 1793, the "Bergen main road" was laid over Hadeland, Valdres, Filefjell and to Lærdalsøyri where there was a boat ride on to Gudvangen or Bergen. This "Kongeveien 1793" was the first drivable road between east and west.
The oldest building on Maristova is from 1791, when a road over Filefjell was buildt, and it is today a private museum. The first Swiss-style hotel was built in 1888 and expanded in 1894. The Maristuen Hotel was completely damaged by fire on May 4, 1976, and a new apartment hotel was completed in 1978.
